"It's a shame to awake in a world of pain - what does it mean where a war has taken over?"

An 'interesting' week not least for the images of Burma's military regime using lethal force to crush pro-democracy protests. The protesters took to the streets led by thousands of monks to oppose forced labour, child soldiers, rape as a weapon of war and the house arrest of opposition leader and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi since 1990. Its utterly Shameful that few countries have stepped up and said what everyone thinks of such actions by the Burmese Government.

In other news - Daryl had his 21st Birthday party yesterday which with friends and family round lasted into the wee small hours. Lesson learned: drinking Heineken through a beer bong is not good. A few random pics are up now on the photos page - check them out.

More to follow shortly - stay tuned.

The end of a very wet summer...

With September nearly over and Halloween just around the corner its a busy time of year. Most if not all of us are now working full time - (shock! horror!) or have returned for some more student fun and frolics in the form of a Masters.

To the many friends and family starting out in first year of their chosen degrees - Good Luck. My advice is enjoy it - because you'll be paying for the 3/4 years you are doing now probably for the next 15 years of your working life.

Something which sadly made little impact in the news recently - were the comments made by US Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani on a visit to London. The topic? The NHS. His comment?

"I think there's something to the idea that there are many more private options driving the system that create altogether better results."

Yes Rudy - private health care is exactly the type of system we all want. A system where people who suffer from health problems are routinely denied health care treatment they need because providing them with treatment wouldn't be good for the bottom line of the health care company. Check out Michael Moore's brilliant documentary 'Sicko'.

While often berating the NHS for its shortcomings - the few small examples in this film really make me glad of the NHS and all it stands for. Screw Private Healthcare.

Last but definitely not least - Welcome to the world young Ruairi Magee!
